What We Believe

Having been led as we believe by the spirit of God, to receive the lord Jesus Christ as our saviour, and on profession of our faith having been baptised in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, angels and their assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ. We therefore engage by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, the holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, and the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations. We also agree to maintain family and personal devotion to teach our children the Christian truths; to seek the salvation of our children and acquaintances; to walk as examples before the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and examples in our departments; to avoid all tattling, back-biting, and excessive anger and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our saviour. We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offence; but always ready to reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our saviour to secure it without delay.

  1. The bible

This church receives the scriptures as its authority in matters of faith and patience. We shall always look to the bible as our guide in spiritual matters and shall fully subscribe to the fundamental truths as contained therein. We believe that the bible is written by men led by the Holy Spirit.

  2. God

This church believes that there is one, and only one living and true God, who is the maker and supreme ruler of heaven and earth. We believe in the trinity; God the father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit.

  3. Man

We believe that man was created in holiness but by his own will, he felt into sin and out of harmony with God and is without hope in his sins.

  4. God’s Grace

We believe that salvation of sinners is wholly of God’s grace through the work of God’s son who took upon himself our nature yet without sin, and by his own obedience, even in the death paid for our sins. He is the risen lord now living and pleading for us at God’s throne. He is the only saviour for men.

  5. Blessedness of Salvation

We believe that the great gospel blessing which Christ secures to those who believe is complete fellowship with God. We are forgiven of sins and made righteous before God by our faith in our redeemer’s blood (the blood of Christ), and brought into blessed peace and favour with God. We have every blessing needful for time and eternity.

  6. Salvation to all who Believe

We believe that the blessings of salvation are made free to all by the gospel. Nothing keeps any man from being saved except his own rejection of the gospel. His rejection of Christ condemns him to eternal punishment.

  7. Repentance and faith

We believe that repentance and faith are our sacred duties. They are brought about by the power of the spirit of God to make us new. We know our sinful condition and turn to God laying aside our sins, and receive the lord Jesus Christ as our saviour, prophet, priest and king. We lean upon him as the only and or sufficient saviour.

  8. God’s sovereignty in election

We believe that God is sovereign in the election and salvation of all who believe on his son. He regenerates and save sinners and sanctifies believers.

  9. Sanctification

We believe that sanctification is the work of the Holy Spirit in which we are set apart from the world and are make partakers of his holiness.

  10. Gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit

We believe in the continuous existence of the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit and its manifestation in the church. (1st Corinthians 12: 8-11; Galatians 5:22-23). We also believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues (Acts 2:3-4).

  11. The church

We believe that the local church is a congregation of baptised believers associated by covenant or agreement in faith and fellowship of the gospel of Jesus Christ working to carry on God’s work and glorify his name.

  12. Baptism

We believe that the baptism is by immersion (dipping) in water of a believer, in the name of the father, son and Holy Spirit. It is a picture of death to sin and rising to a new life in Christ.

  13. Lord’s supper

The Lord’s Supper is a memorial in which by use of bread and wine we remember the dying love of Christ. Only baptized believers can take part in it. However church members are recommended to examine their lives before participating.

  14. Tithing

We believe in tithing and giving of free will offerings towards the cause of carrying forward the mission of the church.

  15. Worship Day

We believe that the first day of the week is the Lord’s Day. It is to be kept sacred for religious purposes and giving ourselves to worship, service and rest in his name.

  16. Civil Government

We believe we should obey the civil government except when it opposes the will of our lord Jesus Christ, as revealed in the scriptures.

  17. Saved and unsaved

We believe that there is great difference between the saved and unsaved. Only those who have shown faith in the lord Jesus Christ are saved and made righteous. Those who remain away from Christ will remain lost in this life and in the life to come.

  18. End of the world

We believe that the end of this world is coming. That in the last day, Christ will descend from heaven, and raise the dead form the grave; that a separation will take place. The unbelievers will be given to everlasting punishment and the righteous to endless joy. This judgement will fix forever the final state of persons in heaven and hell on the principles of God’s.

  19. Righteousness

We believe that healing of sickness and diseases is provided for lord’s people in the atonement (Mark 16:17-18). However the church is not opposed to medication by qualified medical practitioners.
